Hot stone therapy has a history of ritual therapy among ancient Native American cultures. Hot rocks were used to for added relaxation during the physical or spiritual rituals. They worked so well, these heated rocks became known as “grandfather stones.”
Although the hot stone therapy has been prevalent among ancient cultures and on other continents, like Asia, this massage technique was not widely used in the United States until 1993. Even though hot stone therapy has been used for thousands of years as a cure for ailments and relaxations, it is fairly new to the United States.
